it's official

At the end of March 2014, we are expecting the arrival of our second child. On Friday, we had a 13-week ultrasound which revealed what appears to be a very healthy baby. No definitive word on the sex (we have our guesses), but we plan to find out sometime in November.

We are all really excited. I've been a bit absent on the blog this summer because of the pregnancy. I struggled with some anxiety and some pre-baby blues, which made for a tough couple of months. But things are rapidly improving with the start of the second trimester.

I plan to share more in the coming months about how I'm documenting this pregnancy. I didn't do much in that department when I was pregnant with Ben. We were in the middle of a move from Nevada to California, Nick was deployed for a good chunk of the pregnancy, and I lived out of a suitcase for nearly six months.

This time is very different, not least of all because we think this could be not just our second pregnancy, but our last. I'm treating it as such, anyway, and trying to enjoy it as much as possible. I'm not one of these earth-women for whom pregnancy is glowing and perfect and joyous. I'm a pretty cranky expectant mom!

But I'm working on my attitude and acceptance of the changes in my body and my life (which are many). For those of you who have done this, you know the payoff is great, but the process can be tough. I will keep you posted on how it's all going, but for now, we just feel very thankful that the pregnancy and the baby seem to be very healthy. xo, C
